Module 1: Foundations of Artificial Intelligence

Description: This custom AI fundamentals training package has been created by Māori for Māori, and leverages our extensive industry experience and collective mātauranga. Utilising deep insights gained from decades of experience in Māori tech, mainstream tech, Academia and NZ business, we have developed robust foundational training content that has been adapted for Māori organisations and communities in Aotearoa NZ. Importantly, this course has been designed by Māori and will therefore be delivered looking through a Te Ao Māori lens. This course is high level and designed for anyone who has little to no knowledge of AI.

Specialised AI Training courses

These courses are advanced and are intended for individuals and organisations with a working knowledge of AI.

Module 3: AI development life cycle

Hours: TBA

Description: Understanding how the development life cycles of AI, and how Māori/iwi representatives can participate in the process to ensure bias against Māori is minimal and that Te Tiriti is considered at all stages of development. This is a practicable course for anyone who is asked to represent Māori interests with a new AI being developed.

Module 4: Implementing responsible AI governance and risk management

Hours: Module 1, 4 hours and Module 2, 2 days.

This 2-part course is facilitated by Dr Karaitiana Taiuru and experienced director, trustee and NFP governor. It is designed using international best practices and applying a unique Aotearoa focus across those lessons.

Part 1 is a 4 hour course, while the advanced session is a full 2 day course including a practicable workshop.

Designed specifically for company directors, shareholders, risk and audit committees, trustees, marae committees, iwi representatives and any groups and individuals who have legal responsibilities to an organisation.

This course assumes a reasonable level of governance in either a Māori organisation or company and will provide you with tangible resources and tools that can be implemented immediately after the course.

Aspects of the course include risk and audit, privacy, future planning and international best practices.

Module 7: Kaupapa Māori/Tikanga considerations with AI

Hours: 4

Description: Ideal for both Māori and non-Māori individuals and organisations. We will look at how Te Tiriti and New Zealand legislation apply to AI. Māori Data Sovereignty from an individual, rōpū, hapū, marae and iwi lens and how that applies to AI.

We look at tikanga specific issues such as environment, IP theft, reo revitalisation and how te ao Māori must adapt and plan for the future. Questions at the end of this course, will include “Should Māori have their own AI” and what will our mokopuna think of our decisions today.

Module 10: Compliancy with ISO 42001

Description: This is a high-level introductory course to the AI standards ISO 20001. It is a very specialised course intended for large organisations considering taking the ISO certification pathway but aren’t sure where to start or even if this is the right pathway. A small investment to ensure that this dedicated and financially intensive pathway is right for your organisation.

Module 11: Introduction to the EU AI Act and GDPR
